Farmer or Pharma:
How to prevent, arrest, and reverse chronic disease by eating more plants and less animals (and why a vegan’s diet does not necessarily equate to health).
Please join us for this informative lecture given by local award-winning cardiologist and lipid specialist Dr. Chris Wenger and certified plant-based nutritionist Cassandra McKie in the old bank barn.
Cassandra, a plant-based chef and health activist, and her husband Chris, a medical pioneer and doctor from LGH, will offer tips for real-life implementation of the healthiest diet for humans. These valuable lessons are similar to work Chris does clinically, and Cassandra does in her business called Plants for People Nutrition.
These two empowered experts will offer a wealth of medical science and practical wisdom for plant-based living and wellness.
We will offer a tour of the farm sanctuary and a chance to meet some of it’s residents starting at 6 PM. The talk will begin at 7 PM. We will serve healthy drinks and snacks.
This event is free and open to the public, but we will be welcoming donations to the sanctuary.
Farmer or Pharma:
Lancaster Farm Sanctuary is bringing Rachel McCrystal to our community for a free public speaking engagement.
Please join us in the old bank barn May 18th at 7pm for some light refreshments and a talk.
The talk will be a discussion of the climate and environmental impacts of farming animals in a globalized economy. A breakdown of how the bodies of animals have been put into a capitalist system where we are completely disconnected from what is being done to and with them. What are the findings on climate change and animal farming? What are the myths about animal farming that we must break down? Who are these animals who we are farming and where do they come from? What are the alternatives and what can we do?
Rachel came to Woodstock Farm Sanctuary in 2014 as the organization’s first Development Director. She led the campaign to move the Sanctuary to its new location in 2015. Prior to that, Rachel served in senior leadership positions at Best Friends Animal Society and the Pennsylvania SPCA. Her move into the role of Executive Director in April of 2017 cemented a decade of advocacy and nonprofit experience. Rachel has led Woodstock Sanctuary through a period of growth in terms of rescue, animal care, and expanding into an inclusive mission that includes environmental activism.
Before her nonprofit career, Rachel was a journalist and a ballroom dancer. She volunteers with many rescue and vegan groups.
